Taking care of children is just not Ulisses vocation, it is his passion and my gift. The first time he remembers holding a newborn in his arms, he was only 11 years old. He says he can still remember the mother saying “Oh boy! He holds and soothes my baby like nobody else.” Since then, he has devoted his education and professional life to the care, development, and cultivation of children.
In addition to his life as a childcare provider and nurse, Ulisses a marathon runner, soccer player, avid reader, experienced hiker, world traveler (46 countries so far), and a strong swimmer. One of his main hobbies is cooking – especially traditional Brazilian cuisine! He often incorporates these interests into his child caring work. For example, he enjoys taking “Manny’s kids” to the grocery store, where they learn how to feel and pick out the produce. They then cook together so the children can learn the fundamentals of healthy cooking and eating, which helps build a foundation of taking care of themselves throughout their lives.
While he has been on this path of caring for children for many years, it has always been so much more than a career for him. It is his life’s purpose and he cannot wait to continue to take another step along this path with his next family.
Experience
Provided part-time care 2-3 times a week, planned and prepared healthy, well balanced meals for the kids, organized creative projects and planned art and science activities, cared for family pets
Reason for leaving: Family moved to Seattle for work.
Provided full time childcare five days a week, planned outings and activities, planned and prepared healthy, well-balanced meals for children and sometimes the whole family, sleep Training (child sleeping through the night by four months), transported children safely to and from activities, school, and appointments, managed household and other staff (housekeeper), on retainer for after-hours childcare and health care questions, fed and let out dogs during the day and worked as pet sitter, traveled both internationally and domestically with the family, worked with special needs child on Autism Spectrum; worked with behavioral analysis and speech therapists to implement therapy strategies at home
